HENDERSON, Nev. (September 12, 2019) – The College of Southern Nevada women's soccer team may still be only receiving votes in the NJCAA polls but the Lady Coyotes are looking to change that over the next weekend.
CSN is a perfect 6-0 at this point in the season, ending the preseason portion of their schedule with a 2-1 win over Otero Junior College. Now the Lady Coyotes await their Scenic West Athletic Conference opener that is scheduled for Thursday against Snow College, followed up by a non-conference matchup against Mt. San Antonio College in Southern California.
Lady Coyotes coach
Geoff Hawkins said he is proud of the progress his team continues to make.
"The coaches are very happy with this team right now," he said. "There are many things we need to improve upon, but the team has a good attitude and we continue to progress forward each week. Last week, we bumped into a few injuries so we are trying to manage that to the best of our ability."
Southern Nevada's opener against Snow College will be a good test of the team's improvement. Snow is ranked at No. 7 with a record of 2-0-1 to start the season, with wins over Cloud County Community College and Western Wyoming Community College. Southern Nevada, Snow and Salt Lake Community College are the only Scenic West teams receiving votes in the national polls this week.
Hawkins said the Lady Coyotes are excited for opportunities to prove themselves this upcoming weekend.
"Starting conference will be a huge challenge for us," he said. "We are in the strongest conference in the nation for women's soccer. The top teams have not lost a game at this point so the competition we face is only going to elevate itself as the conference play progresses. Snow is arguably the top team in the nation and we are prepared for the challenge.
Southern Nevada will host Snow College at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at Heritage Park in Henderson. The team will play at Mt. San Antonio College in Southern California on Sunday afternoon. CSN will host two SWAC matches at Heritage Park next weekend.
