Big Weekend Ahead For Lady Coyote Soccer

HENDERSON, Nev. (September 18, 2019) – Opportunity is coming the way of the College of Southern Nevada women's soccer team this week.

The Lady Coyotes opened Scenic West play with a narrow 1-0 loss to Snow College, sitting them towards the bottom of the SWAC standings after a single weekend. However, with an impressive weekend forthcoming on the schedule, CSN is in a spot to make a lot of noise nationally if they play well against teams like nationally-ranked Salt Lake Community College.

Southern Nevada coach Geoff Hawkins said the league-opening loss to Snow last weekend, mixed with a non-conference loss, gave his teams much to reflect on heading into the second week of league play.

"Our program has had the opportunity to reexamine where we're at after last weekend," he said. "I like the mindset our players and coaches are bringing as we prepare for this weekend."

The Lady Coyotes will have a strong weekend of competition as they welcome both in-state rival Truckee Meadows Community College and top-five Salt Lake Community College. The Lizards are in their first season of competition and have started out going 4-1 overall and 1-1 in league play after falling to USU Eastern.

After welcoming Truckee Meadows on Thursday, CSN will host nationally-ranked Salt Lake Community College on Saturday in a match that will have big implications for the Lady Coyotes. Salt Lake CC is undefeated on the season, holding a 4-0 record, and is coming off a 20-0 win over Colorado Northwestern Community College.

Hawkins noted both the challenge and the opportunity that lies ahead this weekend.

"It's great for our players to face the caliber of teams we will this weekend," he said. "I'm ecstatic to welcome in a nationally-ranked program and an in-state rival to Heritage Park. It will give our players a great chance to play tremendous competition."

Southern Nevada's Thursday match against in-state rival Truckee Meadows is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start at Heritage Park. The team will also host nationally-ranked Salt Lake Community College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
