HENDERSON, Nev. (January 29, 2020) – The No. 12 College of Southern Nevada baseball team had a mixed opening weekend at No. 17 Arizona Western, with multiple players setting into new roles.

CSN will have a chance to improve on a 1-2 opening weekend with four games at Morse Stadium in this weekend's 'Manny Guerra Memorial Coyote Border Battle – Presented by Sunset Station Hotel and Casino'. The tournament, which annually features some of the best junior college programs in the nation, will see Southern Nevada play nationally-ranked No.1 Central Arizona, along with facing No. 17 Arizona Western again.

Coyotes coach Nick Garritano said his team was focused on using early-week practices to improve in time for the weekend's action.

"We had a rough weekend in Yuma, record-wise," he said. "There were some good things to build on and some bad things to get rid of.  AWC did a really nice job of commanding their pitches against our hitters.  We pressed a little bit, something we see year in and year out early-on.  We got right back to work Monday afternoon to hopefully get a little better for this coming weekend."

Southern Nevada will open the tourney with defending national champion Central Arizona on Thursday at 7:00 p.m., a matchup that Garritano is calling a huge test for his team. CSN will play a pair of games on Friday, facing Gateway Community College and Arizona Western College. Saturday's opponent will be announced later in the tournament.

This tourney is the first of two preseason tournaments the Coyotes will play. CSN is scheduled to begin Scenic West Athletic Conference play on February 27.
