Baseball: The No. 20 Coyotes will return to the Morse Stadium field for their final preseason series of the year, facing off against Community Christian College beginning Thursday.

After going 3-1 in last week's 'Manny Guerra Memorial' tourney, Southern Nevada is looking to earn its first perfect weekend of the year, said CSN coach Nick Garritano.

"Coming off of a rough weekend at Pima College, we thought we did some things very well on Thursday and Friday," he said. "We had three big wins against CSI, and swept the doubleheader versus Arizona Western.  We simply showed up Saturday vs CNCC with the wrong attitude.  We have been 3-0 in four-game weekends or sets three times this year and haven't taken the right approach to the fourth game to complete a sweep.  That lies on myself to make sure we have the correct attitude moving forward."

The Coyotes will play a single game Thursday evening, then play a doubleheader on Friday at Morse Stadium. The series with close with a single game Saturday.

"We need to improve on pounding the strike zone and playing better defense (this weekend)," said Garritano. "We are creating innings for other teams right now and it has caught up to us."

Softball: After a promising weekend in the 'SWAC Preseason Tournament' against top-flight Scenic West Athletic Conference competition, CSN returns to Lady Coyote Softball Field this weekend looking forward to a chance to head into SWAC play with momentum.

The Lady Coyotes will host Eastern Arizona College and Arizona Western College in a tournament this weekend, playing both teams on Friday and Saturday in doubleheaders. CSN has momentum entering the weekend, with Liliana Gutierrez earning weekly honors from the Scenic West for her play the previous week.

"We are still working to improve our pitching daily," said CSN coach Ashley Johnston. "The pitchers had a decent weekend on the mound but have to continue to get stronger each and every day. We need to tighten up our defense a little as well. As we know, 'defense wins championships'.

Volleyball: After opening the 2021 season with an 0-2 mark last weekend, the CSN volleyball team will return to the CSN Sports Center for its first home match since Fall of 2019.

The Lady Coyotes will play against nationally-ranked Snow College, a team that is currently 1-1 in league play. CSN will play one match in the week.

"I believe our team will continue to improve on our basic fundamentals," said CSN coach Jessica Diehl. "This will help us in the long run by being technically sound to lessen the margin of error. We have been playing well against teams who have been competing for a few weeks and even with the lack of time we've had compared to them, I am very pleased with their performance.

"This team continues to grow every day with their skills and their mentality. We are very excited to see their continued success."
