HENDERSON, Nev. (March 23, 2021) - A relatively light week of competition faces the College of Southern Nevada Athletic Department this week.

The Coyotes and Lady Coyotes face the close of the regular-season play in men's-and-women's basketball, while CSN's baseball and softball programs continue Scenic West Athletic Conference play. CSN will open soccer competition next week.

Baseball: The Coyotes are now up to No. 13 in the NJCAA polls, with a weekend road series at USU Eastern ahead of them.

Southern Nevada earned four impressive wins last weekend over Colorado Northwestern, lifting CSN to an overall record of 22-6 overall and 7-1 in Scenic West play. The Coyotes are now 21-3 at Morse Stadium.

CSN coach Nick Garritano said his team is looking forward to what awaits them in the upcoming series.

"We fortunately had a bye week this past weekend," he said. "We feel we desperately needed that as we have been really banged up.  We are looking forward to resuming SWAC play this weekend against a tough CNCC club."

Men's Basketball: The Coyotes will host 'Sophomore Day' festivities this week, hosting Colorado Northwestern in a game Saturday.

CSN coach Russ Beck said Southern Nevada is looking forward to an opportunity to close the home schedule with momentum.

"Our team has improved in every aspect of the game really quickly," he said. "At this stage of the season, we'd like to see our bench play be able to come in and impact the game a little better. We also need to consistently knock down free-throws and rebound the basketball."

Softball: The Lady Coyotes, who are fresh on momentum after earning a four-game sweep at Colorado Northwestern last week, return home to the confines of Lady Coyote Softball Field.

With the sweep, CSN is now 6-6 in Scenic West play and 16-15 overall. The Lady Coyotes are 10-5 at home this season.

Southern Nevada coach Ashley Johnston said her team is locked in on the requirements of Scenic West play.

"The area that we have improved on is defense and offense," she said. "The girls are really starting to play together and we have minimized the errors each game. The offense is swinging the bat strong. We are top in the nation with hits and homeruns so happy with what they are doing at the plate. They are getting stronger and working hard to keep the bats going for the pitching staff.

"As far as the area to improve, that is pitching. We have really good games, then we have bad games. We need to work on staying consistent so we can continue to execute in all aspects of the game."

Women's Basketball: CSN will play a 'Sophomore Day' game on Saturday against Colorado Northwestern.

The game will tip at 5:00 p.m. inside the CSN Sports Center.
