HENDERSON, Nev. (April 1, 2021) - The 2021 season opener for the College of Southern Nevada men's soccer team didn't go quite as planned Thursday.

CSN dropped a close 3-2 decision to Arizona Western in overtime at Heritage Park, falling in the season opener for a team that hasn't played a sanctioned match since November 2019. The loss drops CSN to 0-1 in overall play.

Arizona Western started the match with momentum, scoring a goal less than 90 seconds in the match and then adding to the advantage with 15:58 on the clock in the first period. Southern Nevada responded in the second half, with Mihreteab Tesfamaria scoring on a penalty kick with 62:35 on the clock to get the Coyotes on the board. Minutes later,
Carlos Sanchez scored to tie the match at 2-2. Arizona Western would eventually win in overtime.

CSN's goalkeepers played a strong role in the narrow loss, with
Sebastian St. Jules and
Ivan Rodriguez combining to limit AWC to just a trio of goals on 19 total shots. CSN had a total of five saves.Â

Southern Nevada will face off against Snow College in a non-conference match Saturday.
