HENDERSON, Nev. (January 7, 2023) – The College of Southern Nevada Men's Basketball team split a pair of Scenic West Athletic Conference games to open the new year.
Facing off against two Utah programs, the Coyotes fell in a 92-76 decision to No. 1 Salt Lake Community College on Wednesday to open the week's home games. CSN then rebounded to earn a 87-8 win against USU Eastern on Saturday. The week's decisions sit Southern Nevada at 7-10 overall and 1-4 in Scenic West play.
CSN will travel to play at Snow College and Southern Idaho next week. Southern Nevada's next scheduled home game is on February 4 against Community Christian.
Salt Lake 92, Southern Nevada 76: A tough start led to a disappointing loss for the Coyotes.
Salt Lake jumped out to a 52-41 halftime lad and never looked back.
Darren Jones led the Coyotes with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting, while
Ray Daniels had 16 points.
Kendrick Gilbert finished with 10 points.
Southern Nevada 87, USU Eastern 83: A game that featured 13 lead changes finished with a narrow Coyotes overtime win.
In a game where neither team led by more than eight points, Southern Nevada limited USU Eastern to just 5-of1-19 shooting from three-point range. In the overtime period, CSN's defense continued by forcing the Eagles to go just 3-of-8 from the field, while the Coyotes proved to be the physical aggressors by going 7-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Darren Jones posted a monster performance of 22 points and 16 rebounds, while
Ray Daniels finished with 19 points.
Kendrick Gilbert went 6-of-9 from the floor to score 14 points.
