Phoenix, AZ - November 3, 2023 - In a one-sided basketball matchup at Phoenix College on Friday night, the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) women's basketball team showcased their prowess by defeating the Phoenix College team with a commanding final score of 86-33.
From the opening tip-off, it was clear that CSN had come to Phoenix with a mission. Their aggressive offense and tenacious defense left Phoenix College struggling to keep up throughout the game. By the end of the first quarter, CSN had already built a substantial lead, with a score of 22-10.
Paige Grant, a standout player for CSN, set the tone early with her impressive performance. Grant was efficient on the court, contributing 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals. She displayed her versatility by sinking three crucial three-pointers while also making an impact on the defensive end with her steals.
Keyna Hadley and Jordyn Stroud also played pivotal roles for CSN. Both players recorded 12 points and contributed significantly to CSN's strong rebounding game. Stroud's presence in the paint, where she secured 7 rebounds, was a key factor in CSN's dominance on the boards.
CSN's three-point shooting was another highlight of the game, as they connected on 5 of their 19 attempts from beyond the arc. Aaliyah Ibarra and Braelyn Kauhi were instrumental in this aspect of the game, with Ibarra sinking 2 three-pointers and Kauhi adding 1.
Phoenix College, on the other hand, had a challenging night on the offensive end. Nashelle Ponds struggled to find her shooting rhythm, finishing with just 7 points on 3-of-15 shooting. The team as a whole had a rough shooting night, connecting on only 21.8% of their field goals and going 0-for-21 from three-point range.
Marlene Moreno was one of the few bright spots for Phoenix College, contributing 8 rebounds and 5 assists, but her efforts were not enough to stem the tide of CSN's relentless attack.
The second half of the game saw CSN continuing to build on their lead, outscoring Phoenix College in each quarter. Phoenix College's offensive struggles were particularly pronounced in the final quarter, where they managed to score just 2 points.
CSN's stifling defense was a major factor in their victory, forcing 24 turnovers from Phoenix College and capitalizing on those mistakes with fast-break opportunities. CSN also dominated in the paint, accumulating a significant advantage in points scored close to the basket.
In the end, the final score of 86-33 painted a clear picture of the game's one-sided nature. CSN's well-rounded performance, combining efficient shooting, strong rebounding, and tenacious defense, left no doubt about their superiority on the court.
With this commanding victory, the College of Southern Nevada's women's basketball team improves their record and establishes themselves as a formidable force in the league. Phoenix College, meanwhile, will look to bounce back from this loss as they continue their season.
