No. 14 Coyotes split SLCC series finale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HENDERSON, Nev. (April 10, 2023) -  The No. 14 CSN Baseball team needed to earn a series victory over rival Salt Lake in a Scenic West road series this week to establish supremacy in the Scenic West.

Mission accomplished for the Coyotes, with Southern Nevada posting a 3-1 series edge after a doubleheader split Monday at Cate Field. CSN dropped a close 5-2 matchup in the opener, then responded with a 9-4 win in the final game.

Southern Nevada is now 32-8 overall and 16-4 in Scenic West games.

Salt Lake 5, Southern Nevada 2: A series of mishaps felled the Coyotes in the day's opening game.

SLCC took advantage of its own ability and CSN's misfortune in the Southern Nevada loss, scoring on everything from a balk to sharply-placed singles. The Coyotes bookended their scoring, earning a run on a Bradley Stone RBI groundout in the first inning. CSN then wouldn't score again until the seventh inning, courtesy of a Jackson Castillo RBI sacrifice fly.

Southern Nevada 9, Salt Lake 4: CSN came out hot and never looked back in the victory.

Mikey Cruz, Jr., had a two-run double in the fourth inning to boost Southern Nevada's lead to 7-0, following a two-run groundout by Hunter Katschke in the second inning. Nick Garritano then had an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Cruz, Jr., and Kyle Kiernan both went 3-of-4 in the win. Lucas Boesen was the winning pitcher.
