Coyotes Battle Arizona Western in Tight Sets, Fall in Three

The College of Southern Nevada volleyball team put up a strong fight against Arizona Western College on the road, coming close in each set but ultimately falling in three (20-25, 21-25, 23-25). The Coyotes showed determination and resilience, pushing each set to the wire, but Arizona Western's efficiency at the net helped secure the victory.

The Coyotes were led by Sydney Hall, who tallied a team-high 11 kills on 27 attempts, hitting .333 and adding 13 digs. Aleyson Ross contributed 6 kills and kept the Coyotes competitive from the service line with 5 aces. Setter Kenzy Arafa had 16 assists and added a service ace, guiding the Coyotes' offense through a match full of momentum shifts.

In the first set, the Coyotes kept pace with Arizona Western, but the Matadors' balanced attack led by Esther Asiedu with 7 kills and Larrynn Joseph-Rodrigues with 8 kills pulled them ahead to take the set 25-20. Central Arizona capitalized on strong hitting and well-timed blocks, ending the first set with a team hitting percentage of .194.

The second set saw the Coyotes fighting back with improved defense and service pressure. Ross and Hall helped CSN take an early lead, but Arizona Western's consistency at the net and minimized errors allowed them to pull ahead late in the set, winning it 25-21. The Coyotes hit .020 in the set, hampered by a few attack errors, while Arizona Western hit .233.

The third set was the closest of the match, with both teams trading points in an intense back-and-forth. CSN kept the pressure on Arizona Western, with Hall and Ross again leading the attack. The Coyotes rallied late, closing within two points, but Arizona Western held on to win the set 25-23 and seal the match. The Matadors finished with a .276 hitting percentage in the final set, proving difficult to counter in the critical points.

With this match, the Coyotes drop to 0-17 overall and 0-10 in conference play. Southern Nevada will continue their season with an upcoming home game, seeking to build on their strong performance in Yuma as they aim for their first win.
