The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) Women's Basketball team started their season strong, claiming a decisive 86-72 victory over Scottsdale Community College. Backed by a balanced offensive attack and tenacious defense, the Coyotes set the tone early and never looked back, establishing a 1-0 record for the season.
First Half Surge
CSN came out firing in the first quarter, opening up a 27-13 lead. Saroiya Ajomale, who finished with a game-high 21 points, spearheaded the Coyotes' offense, hitting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Her sharp shooting allowed CSN to seize momentum early. Scottsdale fought back in the second quarter, but the Coyotes maintained their advantage, taking a 37-28 lead into halftime.
Third Quarter Domination
The third quarter proved pivotal, as CSN's offense exploded for 32 points. The Coyotes' perimeter shooters, particularly Trysta Barrett and Selina Gutierrez, drained key shots to widen the gap. Barrett, who added 16 points with three 3-pointers, showcased her versatility, while Gutierrez contributed 18 points, using her driving ability to draw fouls and connect on 6-of-8 free throws. CSN's defense, meanwhile, contained Scottsdale's shooters and forced several turnovers, capitalizing on them to extend the lead to 69-50 by the end of the quarter.
Finishing Strong
Despite a late push from Scottsdale, the Coyotes held firm, limiting scoring opportunities and maintaining a comfortable lead. CSN's rebounding efforts, led by Adrienne Puletasi and Ajomale, helped seal the win, with the team collecting 35 boards overall. Puletasi, in addition to her six points, was a force on the glass with six rebounds, adding defensive pressure that Scottsdale struggled to match.
