Coyotes Secure Commanding Victory Over Arizona Western, 83-76

North Las Vegas, NV- In a compelling matchup at the Coyote Event Center on January 11, 2025, the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) women's basketball team delivered a robust performance to defeat Arizona Western College 83-76. This win advances CSN's record to 14-3 overall and 4-2 in the conference, showcasing their prowess in a critical phase of the season.

Both teams started evenly, ending the first quarter tied at 21. However, CSN pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Arizona Western 21-8, thanks to a combination of sharp shooting and tight defense. The subsequent quarters were closely contested, but CSN maintained their lead, finishing strong with a seven-point margin.

CSN's balanced offensive attack was highlighted by Selina Gutierrez, who led the scoring with 18 points off the bench, including crucial three-pointers. Kayla Terry contributed a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, providing stability both offensively and defensively.

A pivotal moment in the game came in the second quarter when CSN capitalized on Arizona Western's scoring drought. CSN's defense was particularly effective, limiting Arizona Western to just 14.29% shooting from the field during the quarter. This defensive pressure allowed CSN to build a significant lead that they would never relinquish.

The game saw its share of tension in the fourth quarter when Arizona Western tried to mount a comeback, cutting the lead to single digits. However, strategic plays and crucial baskets by CSN held off any hopes of a turnaround from the visiting team.

CSN showed their efficiency on the offensive front, shooting 47% from the field compared to Arizona Western's 34.5%. They were also formidable from the three-point line, hitting 6 of 16 attempts. Free throws were another area where CSN excelled, making 15 of 22 shots, which helped them seal the game in the crucial moments.

On the boards, CSN outrebounded Arizona Western 48-31, with significant contributions from the entire lineup. This rebounding advantage was crucial in limiting Arizona Western's second-chance points and controlling the pace of the game.

CSN's victory was a showcase of their ability to execute their game plan effectively. The team's depth was on full display, with significant contributions coming from both starters and bench players. The defensive strategy to pressure Arizona Western's shooters paid off, as evidenced by their low shooting percentages.

CSN also demonstrated great poise and leadership on the court, particularly in the game's closing stages, where they maintained their composure against Arizona Western's aggressive play.

This win is a significant boost for CSN as they continue their pursuit of a conference title. The team's ability to perform under pressure and their balanced attack make them a formidable opponent moving forward. As they build on this victory, the focus will be on maintaining intensity and consistency in their play.

The Coyotes have set themselves up well for the rest of the season, and if they continue to play with the same determination and teamwork, they are likely to achieve great success.
