2025 XC Region 1 Championship

Coyotes Battle the Heat at Region I Championships in Gilbert

GILBERT, Ariz. (October 24, 2025) – The College of Southern Nevada Cross Country teams closed out their 2025 fall campaign at the NJCAA Region I Championships, hosted by Paradise Valley Community College at Crossroads District Park in Gilbert, Arizona. The meet featured all NJCAA Division I and Division II Region 1 programs, with the Coyotes competing against Central Arizona College (CAC) and Pima Community College (PCC) under challenging desert heat and a demanding course layout.

Men's 8K Recap
Despite not racing at full capacity, the Coyotes turned in an impressive performance, finishing second overall with a team score of 42 points, behind Central Arizona (26) and ahead of Pima (52). CSN's top five averaged 26:52 per runner, clocking a combined time of 2:14:20 — more than a full minute faster than their mark at last year's regional meet.

Leading the pack for Southern Nevada was Dominic Tsao, placing fifth overall in 26:23.0. Jayden Jackson was close behind in sixth at 26:30.8, while Gerardo Osorio finished eighth in 26:42.6. Aidan Miller (10th, 27:03.8) and Kyle Gwerder (13th, 27:40.7) rounded out the scoring five. Miguel Caballero (16th, 28:03.5) and Jackson Graham (17th, 28:24.2) completed CSN's lineup.

Coach Bryan Astudillo praised his team's consistency and resilience:
"It was a tough day with the heat and the course conditions, but the guys still ran more than a minute faster than last year's regionals. It shows the growth of this program."

Women's 5K Recap
The Lady Coyotes also impressed, tying Pima College with 54 points, but narrowly missing the runner-up trophy on a tiebreaker due to Pima's sixth finisher. CSN's five-runner squad still posted its best regional performance in program history, averaging 21:54 per runner for a total time of 1:49:32—over three minutes faster than their 2024 regional showing.

Cheyenne Dillingham once again led the way, finishing fourth overall with a time of 20:35.0. She was followed by Reese LeBaron (10th, 21:28.6), Sienna Maisano (10th, 21:28.6), Julia Gamboa (13th, 22:17.3), and Jasmine Gamboa (16th, 23:43.3).
Coach Astudillo noted that the women's squad entered the race with a cautious plan due to lingering injuries but still exceeded expectations:
"We ran smart, and even while testing a few injured runners, our women improved by more than three minutes from last year. They've set the tone for what's ahead."
