CORONA, Calif. — The College of Southern Nevada men's and women's cross country teams delivered a strong showing against a field loaded with four-year programs Saturday at the Mark Covert Classic, highlighted by a school-record performance from Sienna Maisano and a top-15 finish from Jayden Jackson.

Hosted by Cal State Fullerton at Green River Golf Club, the meet brought together programs from across the NCAA and NAIA ranks, giving the Coyotes an early-season opportunity to test themselves against a deep collegiate field.

Maisano Leads Record-Setting Day for CSN Women

Maisano delivered the day's signature performance for Southern Nevada, completing the women's 6K in 22:47.9 to establish a new CSN school record.

The record was only part of an impressive day for the Coyotes. CSN's first four runners across the finish line all ran faster than the program's previous 6K record.

Katie Iniguez followed Maisano in 23:23.6, Cheyenne Dillingham crossed in 23:28.9 and Johnna Waldahl completed the record-breaking quartet in 23:41.5.

Madison Schrade finished in 25:06.5, followed by Lola DeCania at 25:17.2 and Leara Alcala at 25:46.7.

Southern Nevada's scoring five combined for a team time of 1:58:29, averaging 23:42, as the Coyotes finished eighth in the team standings.

"Women had a great showing," CSN head coach Bryan Astudillo said. "Sienna finished with a school record for the 6K with a 22:47. Highlight was all top four girls finished with a faster time than the previous school record time."

Jackson Leads Strong Showing by Coyote Men

Jackson continued his impressive start to the season by leading the Southern Nevada men with a 13th-place overall finish in 25:29.6.

The top-15 performance came in a field featuring runners from NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA programs and provided another strong early-season result for Jackson.

Behind him, Southern Nevada put together a tightly grouped scoring pack.

Myles Oliver was the Coyotes' No. 2 runner in 26:59.0, followed by Kyle Gwerder in 27:06.6, Jorrin Johnston in 27:10.7 and Benjamin Killebrew in 27:34.9.

The group gave CSN encouraging depth behind Jackson, with its second through fifth runners finishing within approximately 36 seconds of one another.

Jy Black followed in 27:40.8, while Caden Gwerder crossed in 27:42.5.

Southern Nevada finished seventh in the team standings with 200 points, recording a five-runner team time of 2:14:21.

"Men had a great showing too," Astudillo said. "The course was longer than the 8K distance posted, but we were led by a top-15 finish in Jayden Jackson. It was also very promising to see our No. 2-No. 5 spread be 30 seconds."

Saturday's results provided plenty of positives for both Southern Nevada programs. The women didn't simply produce one school-record performance — four Coyotes bettered the previous 6K standard on the same morning. On the men's side, Jackson placed himself among the front runners in a strong collegiate field while CSN showed promising depth through its scoring lineup.

With a record-setting women's performance and a top-15 men's finish leading the way, Southern Nevada left California with another encouraging step forward in the young 2026 season.
