Phoenix, AZ — November 15, 2025- The College of Southern Nevada Men's Basketball team wrapped up its three-game Arizona trip on Saturday afternoon, falling 79–58 to a hot-shooting South Mountain Community College squad. The loss moves the Coyotes to 5–2 on the season as they turn their attention to next week's USUE Basketball Invitational.
South Mountain entered the contest undefeated and protected its home floor from start to finish, building a 16-point halftime lead and maintaining control throughout the second half.
Despite the setback, forward
Gerald Patterson turned in one of the best performances of his CSN career. Patterson posted a 17-point, 16-rebound double-double, including seven offensive boards, providing consistent effort inside and keeping CSN competitive on the glass.
Guard Demarion Yap scored 13 points, knocking down two three-pointers and going 5-of-6 at the free-throw line.
Guard
Ivoryon Cuffee added 10 points, while also contributing three rebounds and two steals.
Point guard
Ryan Raad chipped in 6 points and 5 assists, and
Corbin Putnam added 6 points, both producing baskets during key stretches in the first half.
South Mountain delivered its strong offensive showing, shooting 47.5% from the field and hitting nine three-pointers, including a 6-of-10 second-half three-point surge. The Cougars were led by I'yar Shadowvine, who poured in 22 points, including four threes in the final 20 minutes.
CSN struggled to match South Mountain's efficiency, shooting just 28.3% from the field and 3-of-16 from deep. While the Coyotes battled on the boards (37 rebounds), SMCC's ability to convert turnovers into points (30 points off CSN giveaways) created separation the Coyotes could not close.
South Mountain opened the game with early defensive pressure and transition scoring, building a 26–11 lead midway through the first half. CSN responded with baskets from Yap, Patterson, and Cuffee, but the Cougars continued to hit from outside, taking a 45–29 lead at halftime.
CSN played South Mountain nearly even in the second half but could not reduce the deficit to single digits as SMCC stayed hot from three-point range.
The Coyotes now turn their focus to the USUE Basketball Invitational in Price, Utah. CSN will open tournament play against Utah State University Eastern.
