NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The College of Southern Nevada Lady Coyotes dropped their second game of the CSN Women's Basketball Holiday Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, falling 79–43 to Western Wyoming Community College at the Coyote Event Center.
Western Wyoming jumped out to an early advantage and maintained control throughout the contest, improving to 12–4 on the season, while CSN moved to 9–3 overall.
The Mustangs set the tone in the opening quarter, shooting 68 percent from the field and knocking down six three-pointers to build a 34–12 lead after one. CSN showed improved offensive rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring Western Wyoming 16–17 in the period, but still trailed 51–28 at halftime.
CSN struggled to find consistent scoring after the break, managing just five points in the third quarter as Western Wyoming continued to control the tempo and the glass. The Mustangs extended the margin in the fourth quarter and cruised to the final 36-point victory.
Saroiya Ajomale led the Lady Coyotes with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals while battling throughout the afternoon.
Trista Mabry added nine points and six rebounds, while
Alana Conner,
Elizebeth Mahavong, and
Daisha Peavy each contributed four points off the bench.
CSN was held to 25.4 percent shooting from the field and just 2-of-18 from beyond the arc, while Western Wyoming shot 43.4 percent overall and finished with 40 points in the paint. The Mustangs were paced by Maia Rhay, who scored a game-high 27 points on 12-of-18 shooting, and Eva Amenhauser, who added 12 points off the bench.
The Lady Coyotes will look to bounce back and close out the CSN Women's Basketball Holiday Invitational on Wednesday, December 17, when they face Colorado Northwestern Community College at 2:00 p.m. at the Coyote Event Center.
