September 23, 2025 | North Las Vegas, NV – The College of Southern Nevada Lady Coyotes Soccer team welcomed one of the nation's toughest opponents to the Cheyenne Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon, hosting the No. 2-ranked Arizona Western College Matadors in ACCAC play. In front of a supportive home crowd, CSN battled through 90 minutes against a nationally elite side, ultimately falling 8–0.
The Coyotes faced relentless pressure from an Arizona Western team that entered the contest unbeaten and riding a wave of offensive firepower. Despite the early scoring surge from the Matadors, CSN showed resilience in its defensive shape and found moments to counter, highlighted by shots on target from
Kate Oliva,
Valeria Castillo, and
Iliana Arias.
Goalkeeper duties were split, with
Annika Griffith starting the opening minutes and recording a save before
Angelina Mendoza came on to finish the match. Mendoza was a bright spot for the Coyotes, registering 11 saves against a barrage of 20 shots on goal, keeping CSN organized and composed in the back.
Freshman defender
Rayen Garrett and senior captain
Monica Lopez-Torres anchored the back line with steady play, absorbing wave after wave of Matador attacks. In the midfield,
Savannah Foschetti and
Kassandra Gonzalez logged significant minutes, working tirelessly to connect possession and push the Coyotes forward. Off the bench,
Iliana Arias provided energy and pace, recording one of CSN's best scoring chances late in the match.
The Coyotes (2–4–1 overall, 1–3–1 ACCAC) know the value of testing themselves against one of the top programs in the country and will use the experience to fuel growth as conference play continues.
