NORTH LAS VEGAS — Behind a balanced effort and timely free throws late, the College of Southern Nevada women's basketball team held off a furious fourth-quarter push from Yavapai College to earn a 69-66 win Wednesday night (Jan. 14) at the Coyote Event Center.
CSN never trailed on the night, building a 20-15 lead after one quarter and extending the margin to double digits multiple times, including a 12-point advantage midway through the fourth.
The Lady Coyotes opened with energy on both ends as
Satsuki Bradley sparked an early 13-2 burst. Bradley scored CSN's first nine points — a layup, jumper, and a three — as the Coyotes raced out in front, with
Alanna Jackson controlling the glass during the opening surge.
Yavapai answered with free throws from Giselle Serrano and Alexys DeCremer, then trimmed the deficit late in the period behind Amani Arraf's three-pointer, but CSN carried a five-point lead into the second.
While the Roughriders kept chipping away, CSN maintained control through the second and third quarters with defensive rebounding and trips to the foul line.
Trista Mabry and
Alana Conner each provided steady production, and
Mya Harper knocked down a key three in the third to push momentum back to the home side.
CSN led 52-46 heading into the fourth, but the Roughriders weren't done.
Yavapai made its final push in the closing minutes behind Serrano and Kayla Bailey, getting within one point at 67-66 with eight seconds left. CSN responded immediately, as Conner calmly sank two free throws with four seconds remaining to seal it, and the Coyotes defended the final possession to secure the three-point victory.
Bradley led CSN with 17 points, while Jackson posted a strong all-around night with 13 points and a dominant 20 rebounds. Mabry added 11 points, and
Jada Green scored nine off the bench as CSN generated second-chance opportunities all night.
For Yavapai, Serrano finished with 16 points and four steals, Bailey added 12 points, and Annika Hester scored 10 as the Roughriders' bench contributed 23 points.
