NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The College of Southern Nevada women's basketball team closed out the regular season Monday night with a 68–57 victory over Nellis Diamonds inside the Coyote Event Center, capping an evening filled with emotion, celebration, and postseason anticipation.
The night served as Sophomore Night for the Lady Coyotes, honoring Alana Conner, Bianca Vazquez, Elizebeth Mahavong, Leah Mitchell, and Saroiya Ajomale for their contributions to the program over the past two seasons. It was also a special recognition moment for Ajomale, who recently became the first player in CSN Women's Basketball history to surpass 1,000 career points.
With the pregame ceremony still fresh in the air, CSN responded with one of its strongest opening halves of the season.
The Lady Coyotes erupted for 28 first-quarter points, shooting 63 percent from the field and setting the tone early. Ajomale poured in 15 points in the opening period, attacking the rim in transition and knocking down a three-pointer as CSN built a 28–16 advantage after one.
The momentum continued in the second quarter. CSN outscored Nellis Diamonds 20–10 in the period to take a commanding 48–26 halftime lead. Conner connected from beyond the arc, Mitchell finished efficiently inside, and Vazquez added timely free throws to stretch the lead past 20. The Lady Coyotes dominated the paint throughout the night, finishing with 50 points inside and controlling the rebounding battle.
Though the third quarter saw a brief offensive lull, CSN maintained control and led by as many as 24 points midway through the period. Nellis Diamonds made a late push in the fourth, trimming the margin, but baskets from Ajomale, Mitchell, and Conner steadied the Lady Coyotes down the stretch to secure the 11-point victory.
Ajomale led all scorers with 29 points on 12-of-20 shooting while adding six rebounds and four steals in 27 minutes. Conner and Mitchell each added 10 points, with Mitchell also contributing seven rebounds. Mahavong recorded nine points and eight boards, while Vazquez added six points and four rebounds in her final regular-season home appearance.
CSN finished 29-of-76 from the field and outrebounded Nellis Diamonds 50–47, including 20 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second-chance points.
More than the statistics, the night was about legacy and leadership. The five sophomores were honored for helping elevate the program, and Ajomale's historic 1,000-point milestone stands as a defining achievement in CSN Women's Basketball history.
The regular season now gives way to postseason play.
The Lady Coyotes (18–12) will travel to Douglas, Arizona, on Wednesday, March 4, to face Cochise College in a Region 1 play-in game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. MST.
