Box Score 2 By James HernandezThe Lady Coyotes hit the road for a second consecutive weekend as they travelled to Victorville, CA. for matches between the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles and the Cuesta College Cougars. This road trip would be the Coyotes last chance to fine tune their play before the start of the conference season next weekend.
The first match of the weekend got underway as our Coyotes looked to jump out early in its match versus the Eagles of Mt. San Jacinto. CSN outlasted MSJC 25-23 in a very thrilling and competitive first set of the match. Set 2 was seemingly over before it began as the Coyotes jumped out to an early lead and won the set going away 25-11. The Eagles showed some grit in the third set of the match as they outlasted CSN 25-22 and avoided a match loss in straight sets. During the fourth set, CSN put the hammer down early and cruised to a 25-10 match deciding set. The Coyotes defeated the Eagles (25-23) (25-11) (22-25) and (25-10) to capture the match 3 sets to 1. Standouts for the Coyotes in the first match include Christina Beaver who accounted for 28 of her teams 30 assists, Bailey Bergquist who had a team high 10 kills and Hannah Karas who came in with a team high 22 digs.
Match two of the afternoon was between our CSN Coyotes and the Cuesta College Cougars. CSN flexed its muscles early as they jumped out and took the first set of the match 25-18 behind some exceptional play around the net. Set two was a war of attrition eventually taken by the Coyotes by a ten point margin 25-15. By the time the 3rd set was underway CSN could smell the match victory and played like it. The Coyotes immediately went for the Cougars jugular in the third set of the match to emerge victorious 25-16. CSN won the match in straight sets (25-18) (25-15) and (25-16) as they head into conference play this weekend. Once again Christina Beaver was everywhere she needed to be, accounting for 23 of the teams 26 match assists, 5 kills and a team high 10 digs. Bailey Bergquist and Olivia Stet tied for the team lead with 6 kills apiece and Johanna Alvarez-Thompson chipped in with 5 kills of her own.
It's now conference time as our Coyotes hit the road for a third consecutive week looking to begin conference play on a high note. CSN's first match of the weekend will take place Friday night September 25th at 7:00 p.m. versus the USU-Eastern Golden Eagles in Price Utah. Immediately following the game CSN will travel to Rangely Colorado to do battle with the CNCC Lady Spartans Saturday afternoon September 26th at 1:00 p.m.
