Daytona State Falcons Too Much For Young Coyotes

Box Score

By James Hernandez

After dropping its opening tournament game to Monroe College 9-2 just 24 hours earlier CSN needed to turn the page quickly and refocus its attention on the #7 seed Daytona State Falcons.

The Coyotes were facing a win or go home scenario versus the Falcons and it was crucial that they establish an offensive presence early, in order to have chance to claim the victory.

Daytona State's Brandon Berg scored the first goal just ten minutes into the match and the Falcons added two more to take a 3-0 lead at the 29' minute mark of the first half.

CSN midfielder Manny Jahuey found the back of the net just before the end of the first half to give his team some momentum heading into the locker room and cut the Falcons lead to 3-1. Unfortunately the momentum was short-lived as the Falcons tallied a pair of goals just thirteen minutes into the second half, building an insurmountable 5-1 lead.

Super sophomore Genaro Corona scored the Coyotes second goal of the match 66' minutes in to cut CSN's deficit to 5-2, however it was the last score we would see in the match.

Daytona State outlasted CSN 5-2 in a very competitive back and forth match.

Despite falling short of its ultimate goal of an NJCAA national championship this group of Coyotes 2016 postseason run was one for the ages.

Congratulations to the entire 2016 CSN Men's Soccer team and coaching staff on a truly historic inaugural season (16-6-2) which included a 2016 Region 18 championship and 2016 Western District Runner-up finish.
