After getting swept at home this past weekend by the fifth ranked SLCC Bruins the Lady Coyotes hit the road for Twin Falls, Idaho for a four game series with the tenth ranked CSI Golden Eagles.
The opening game of the weekend started off with a bang for the Golden Eagles. After just two innings of play CSI raced out to a 7-0 lead in which CSN could not recover.
Kara Simpson's RBI single was the only earned run given up by the Golden Eagles.
Raina Ladislao score in the top of the fifth inning on an error committed by CSI third baseman Jaci Bishop, but 9-2 would be as close as CSN got in game one of the series. Second baseman Sarah Phillips would score the teams tenth run of the contest on a wild pitch uncorked by
Jaycie LeBaron and gave CSI a 10-2 run rule victory over CSN to extend the Lady Coyotes losing streak to 13.
Game two of the series was a much more competitive affair, going all seven innings with both teams holding a lead at one point in the contest. CSN's offense could be summed up in two words,
Kara Simpson. The freshman outfielder from Centennial High School did her best Bryce Harper impersonation, launching a pair of two-run bombs over the center field wall. Simpson finished the game with a career high four RBI, unfortunately her individual heroics were not enough to snap the Lady Coyotes 13 game losing streak. CSN dropped a heartbreaker 5-4 to CSI in game two of the weekend.
During the third game of the series the Golden Eagles used a seven run explosion in the bottom of the fourth inning to deliver the knockout blow to the Lady Coyotes. CSI held a slim 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth, however the Golden Eagle bats woke up to put up a seven spot up in the inning en route to the teams second run rule victory of the weekend.
Shonda Badayos singled in
Emily Guthrie for the Coyotes only run of the afternoon. CSN was defeated 9-1 by CSI for the third consecutive game.
The final game of the weekend featured a pitching matchup between CSN's
Shonda Badayos and CSI's Samantha Riesen. The Golden Eagles were able to race out to a seven run lead thanks in large part to 2016 All-SWAC hopeful Abby Toller's four RBI onslaught. Reserve catcher Shelby McKinnon made the most of her only start of the weekend by launching a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. CSI completed the weekend sweep of CSN by defeating the Lady Coyotes 7-1 in the final game of the weekend.
CSN will return home for the final weekend of SWAC play versus in-state rival Western Nevada. Make your plans to join us on Saturday afternoon as we say goodbye to three very special ladies on Sophomore Day.
