After a hard fought weekend split at "the den" versus the Bruins, the first place Coyotes turned its attention towards a road trip to Ephraim, Utah where they would meet the Snow College Badgers in another crucial Scenic West Athletic Conference showdown.
Snow College wasted little time getting on the board as Luis Miguel was able to beat reigning SWAC keeper of the year
Miguel Navarrete just 6:38 into the match to claim an early 1-0 lead. Former Bonanza Bengal standout
Manuel Ponce knotted the contest up 1-1 with a gorgeous unassisted goal at the 9:28 mark of the first half. Less than five minutes later slick sophomore
Stefan Skrinjaric found the back of the net to give Southern Nevada a 2-1 edge. Marcos Del-Angel Parra tallied the Coyotes third goal of the first half courtesy of a great feed off the foot of
Stefan Skrinjaric that sent CSN to the locker room with a seemingly comfortable 3-1 cushion. Unfortunately for the Coyotes its 2 goal lead evaporated like water under the desert sun. Snow rallied for a pair of goals less than 6 minutes apart in the second half to tie the match up 3-3 and force overtime. Neither side was able to dent the scoreboard in the first overtime despite several chances as the teams remained tied 3-3 after 105 grueling minutes of play. With both exhausted it was Snow's Felipe Novelini who scored the game-winner just 45 seconds into the second overtime, completing an improbable 4-3 comeback victory for the Badgers.
An intensely focused group of Coyotes entered the pitch Saturday looking to erase the memories of Friday's second half collapse and maintain its grasp on first place with a victory. Following a few clutch saves from keeper
Miguel Navarrete, CSN turned defense to offense and
Manuel Ponce converted a perfect pass off the foot of fellow freshman Marcos Del-Angel Parra into the first goal of the match. With the Coyotes already ahead 1-0, midfielder
Stefan Skrinjaric scored his second goal of the weekend courtesy of a beautiful dime from
Diego Nieves that sent Southern Nevada into intermission with a commanding 2-0 lead. There would be no late collapse Saturday afternoon as the Coyotes defense smothered the Badgers in the second half, limiting the Badgers to just three second half shots. The man of the weekend,
Stefan Skrinjaric put the icing on the cake in the 83
rd minute with his third goal of the weekend when he converted a
Manuel Ponce pass into the Coyotes third goal of the match. Navarrete posted his second shutout of 2017 as Southern Nevada blanked Snow College 3-0 to split the weekend series in Ephraim.
