After dropping a pair of home matches to second place Salt Lake last weekend, Southern Nevada headed to Ephraim, Utah to battle first place and unbeaten Snow College in another high-level Scenic West Athletic Conference women's soccer matchup.
Entering Friday's matchup CSN had been held scoreless over its last 180 minutes of play and the task didn't get any easier as they matched up with the top defensive unit in the entire Scenic West. Offensively the Badgers wasted little time gaining an advantage as Jaycee Hafen dented the scoreboard just five minutes into the match, to give Snow the early 1-0 lead. Sophie Stewart scored the first of her three goals at the 31:34 mark of the first half and sent the Badgers into the locker room with a 2-0 edge. The deficit remained manageable thanks to Lady Coyote's keeper
Carolina Velasquez's outstanding effort in the first half turning away 10 of the 12 shots on goal. Unfortunately for CSN, the calculated second half barrage was too much to handle. Snow converted five of its twenty second half shots into goals as they cruised to a 7-0 victory in the weekend's opening match.
Saturday's match must have felt like "Groundhog Day" for CSN as the Badgers found the back of the net just 2:28 into the match to claim a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish. Reigning SWAC keeper of the year
Carolina Velasquez did everything in her power to keep CSN in the match. Despite Snow outshooting Southern Nevada 17-2 in the first half, Carolina was able to limit the Badgers to one first half goal and get Southern Nevada into intermission trailing just 1-0. A visibly fatigued group of Lady Coyotes surrendered three second half goals on 17 shots as Snow College continued to put the clamps on CSN defensively. Sophie Stewart tallied her second consecutive hat trick for Snow College as they rolled to a 4-0 victory in Saturday's weekend finale.
The Lady Coyotes were outshot 66-12 over the weekend and have now been held scoreless in four consecutive matches.
