Following four consecutive shutout losses to the top two teams in the scenic west athletic conference, our Lady Coyotes looked to regroup versus the Eagles and Spartans with the regular season winding down and postseason play on the horizon.
Price, Utah was the first stop on the weekend as CSN looked to defeat USU-Eastern for the first time this season. Defense was the name of the game for both the Coyotes and Eagles early on as both teams were held off the scoreboard over the first 45 minutes of play, combining for just one shot on goal in the first half. Things loosened up a bit in the second half for Southern Nevada and that was all they would need to seize the moment. At the 57 minute mark of the match
Sydni Aldan converted a beautiful feed off the foot of
Sydnee Farrer into a header that found the back of the net, giving the lady coyotes a 1-0 advantage. CSN wasn't about to let its first goal in over 400 minutes of game action not stand up and the defense in front of Velasquez played like it. Southern Nevada turned away multiple scoring threats from the Eagles to secure a hard-fought 1-0 shutout victory. The victory improved CSN's record to 4-7-2 with three matches remaining in the 2017 regular season.
After a gut-check victory in the "Beehive State" the lady coyotes returned home to face a CNCC team that they shutout twice earlier this season in Rangely, Colorado by a combined score of 20-0. The match began like a mirror image of the first two as CSN tallied four goals in the first ten minutes of the match.
Veronica Gonzales scored the first and fourth goals of the match, with
Olivia Meza and
Sydni Aldan contributing one goal apiece.
Kayla Steiner (11:03) and
Gabby Gijon (14:44) got in on the fun to extend the lead to 6-0. With the match well in hand former Arbor View Aggies standout
Mickelle Harden found the back of the net at the 27th and 29th minute mark of the match to expand the lead to 8-0.
Jessi Jaech and
Shae Holland scored a goal each in the 33rd and 35
th minute marks of the opening half to cement the victory. All-SWAC goalkeeper
Carolina Velasquez cruised to her second shutout of the weekend and fourth of the season as Southern Nevada dominated Colorado Northwestern 10-0.
