With only a pair of games remaining on the schedule the Lady Coyotes were hoping to improve their seeding in the upcoming Region XVIII tournament, and extend its two -game winning streak as they prepared to face the Bruins and Badgers for a third time in 2017.
Thursday's match versus Salt Lake came just a few weeks after a 0-2 home stand that saw the Bruins outscore the Coyotes 13-0 over the two matches. Meeting three of the season did not begin much better as SLCC found the back of the net three times in the first 12 minutes of the match, to take a commanding 3-0 lead before the dust settled. The Bruins would tally three more goals before halftime and took a commanding 6-0 lead into the locker room. Salt Lake would strike for another five goals on ten second half shots to humble Southern Nevada 11-0 on its way to sweeping the season series with CSN.
Things wouldn't get any easier for the Lady Coyotes as the hosted nationally ranked and unbeaten Snow College on Sophomore Day in Henderson, Nevada. After a outstanding group of CSN sophomore's said goodbye in an emotional pre-match ceremony, the team was able to channel that emotion and play a great match. Despite being outshot 10-1 in the first half, all-SWAC goalkeeper
Carolina Velasquez was able to deny the Badgers at the net and keep the match scoreless heading to intermission. Scoring opportunities were few and far between for both sides, however Snow College was able to find the back of the net at the 67:20 mark of the second half to break the scoreless tie. Snow's Sophie Stewart put the game on ice with her second goal of the match in the 82
nd minute to secure a 2-0 victory for her Badgers. The loss dropped the Lady Coyotes to 5-9-2 in regular season play and set up a rematch with Snow College Friday afternoon in the Region XVIII tournament.
