Lady Coyote Soccer Region 18 Recap

Box Score

By James Hernandez

Despite a fourth place finish during the regular season, the Lady Coyotes had a new lease on life in the postseason as their home field Heritage Park would be the sight for the 2017 Region XVIII tournament.

The bad news was that in order to advance in this postseason single elimination tournament they would need to vanquish unbeaten and nationally ranked Snow Badger team. A team that had defeated CSN three times this season by a combined score of 13-0. Snow College wasted little time asserting its dominance, netting a pair of goals in the first 18:35 of play and taking a comfortable 3-0 edge into intermission. Southern Nevada's commitment to the defensive of the ball paid dividends until the Badgers put the game away after Angela Castro found the back of the CSN net four times during a ten minute stretch of play in the second half to extend a three goal lead to seven. Snow would add a final goal at the 88 minute mark to put the exclamation point on a dominant 8-0 victory, that extinguished the Lady Coyotes 2017 season.

Despite finishing 5-10-1 in coach Rob Dahl's first season at the helm, the season did feature a few bright spots along the way. Former Las Vegas HS Wildcat and true freshman Ashlee Jordan was rewarded for a dynamic campaign by being named to both the All-Region 18 and All-tournament first teams. Sydni Aldan and Olivia Meza also found their way onto the All-Region 18 second team and with both Jordan and Meza returning next season for their sophomore campaigns, coach Dahl and his staff have two dynamic playmakers to begin the foundation for his 2018 team.
