Following a week off to fine-tune some things defensively and offensively, the Lady Coyotes hit the road for the team's first road trip of the 2017 season. The destination was Palm Desert, California and the opponent was a scrappy College of the Desert Roadrunners team still searching for that elusive first win of 2017.
Sophomore
Dejah Rogers took the mound in search of her first career victory in a Coyote uniform and her teammates made sure to their part offensively. Team RBI leader
Chandie Perez (13) got the scoring in the top of the first inning with two of her three RBI's to stake CSN to an early 2-0 lead. Freshman
Alexa Campbell's RBI's in the second and fourth help CSN extend its lead over the Roadrunners to 6-0, heading into the bottom of the fourth inning and put her team in position to go for the kill. The Lady Coyotes sent nine hitters to the plate in the top of the sixth inning and by the time the third out was made CSN had plated four more runs, taking a commanding 11-0 over the Roadrunners. Catcher
Jordan Menke led the charge with a 2 RBI double,
Mackenzie McBride and
Dejah Rogers added one RBI apiece. Rogers cruised to her first victory of the season by tossing six shutout innings of softball, allowing just four hits and striking out six Roadrunners. CSN pounded out 15 hits en route to an 11-0 victory over College of the Desert in game one of the doubleheader.
Ace
Shonda Badayos took the ball hoping to earn her second victory of the year and get her team back on the bus with a weekend sweep of the Roadrunners. The game remained scoreless until the top of the third inning when a clutch two out base knock from
Chandie Perez put CSN up 1-0. Perez with yet another RBI opportunity in the top of the fifth, cashing in her fifth and sixth RBI's of the weekend to extend the Lady Coyotes lead to 3-0.
Jinger Meuir,
Alexa Campbell and
Kara Simpson provided an RBI each in the top of the sixth inning with back to back to back doubles to open up a 7-1 lead over College of the Desert. Seven runs were more than enough for the Lady Coyote ace Badayos, as she cruised to her second victory of 2017. Shonda scattered five hits over seven innings of work, allowing just one run and striking out five. The Lady took care of the Roadrunners 7-1 to sweep the doubleheader and improve its record to 3-4 on the season.
Fans your Lady Coyotes will be back in action at home versus this same College of the Desert team for a doubleheader on Sunday, February 26th.
