Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4

By James Hernandez

After posting a 2-2 record to open conference play on the road versus Snow College, CSN returned home to host the Colorado Northwester Community College Spartans.

The Lady Coyotes were looking to continue its offensive momentum and win its SWAC home opener for the sixth consecutive season, a streak that dates all the way back to 2012.

Deja Rogers opened the series hoping to bounce back from a pair of losses last weekend versus the Badgers that saw the sophomore get hit hard, surrendering eight earned runs in just six innings of work.

Rogers cruised through her first two innings of work, but hit a rough patch in the top of the third inning. CNCC sent eleven batters to the plate in the top of the third inning and teammates Taylor Reidhead and Ashley Cortez both hit 3-run homers in the inning, to stake the Spartans to a 6-3 lead. Fortunately, Deja would get back on track, posting four consecutive scoreless innings, striking out a season high eleven hitters and allowing her offense a chance to rally back for the victory. Facing a 6-3 deficit in the bottom of the third inning freshman Brianna Neveau laced a 2 RBI triple to cut the Coyotes deficit to 6-5. In the bottom of the fifth inning Jinger Meuir smacked a 2 RBI single, putting CSN back in front 7-6 and Kara Simpson extended the lead two batters later, driving home her second and third RBI's of the day to put CSN ahead by three. Rogers earned her third victory of the season as CSN held on to defeat CNCC 9-6, improving to 3-2 in SWAC play and 8-6 overall.

Shonda Badayos stepped in the circle for game two of the series just one win away from matching her season win total (6) of 2016.

Badayos was a little wild to begin the game, unable to consistently locate her pitches for strikes and paid for it, surrendering five runs over her first two innings of work. Fortunately for Shonda, the lady coyote offense had her back as they continued to produce offense at a torrid pace. CSN erased a two- run deficit after plating a five spot in the bottom of the third inning highlighted by a Emily Guthrie 2 RBI single and a pair of run producing hits from Jinger Meuir and Alexa Campbell that put the Lady Coyotes back in front 8-5. The Lady Coyotes would plate single runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings with the help of Jordan Menke and Kiana Burnett chipping in with a pair of RBI's each as the team scored in all but one inning. Badayos went five innings to earn her sixth win of the season and Lindsey Daron pitched two stellar innings of shutout relief to close the show in style. CSN defeated CNCC 11-6 in game two of the series, improving to 4-2 in conference and 9-6 overall.

Following a dominant eleven strikeout performance Deja Rogers took the ball in game three knowing that she had the pitching arsenal to shutdown the Spartan offense as long as she consistently pounded the strike zone. Deja was absolutely filthy all afternoon, dominating an overmatched CNCC offense on her way to a complete game shutout.

Rogers scattered four hits as she was dialed in from the jump, striking out nine Spartans in game three and twenty in total over her fourteen innings of work as she improved her season record to 4-3. Chandie Perez got the offense going in the bottom of the first, launching a 2-run bomb over the right field wall to plate Alexa Campbell and put CSN up 2-0. Campbell plated freshman Jessica Garcia in the bottom of the third inning with a rope double to left field that extended the Lady Coyotes lead to 3-0. Pitching and defense keyed CSN's fourth consecutive victory as the defeated CNCC 3-0, improving its SWAC mark to 5-2 and 10-6 overall.

With a weekend sweep in sight, the Lady Coyotes sent Shonda Badayos to the mound looking to eclipse last season's win total (10) in the teams 17th game of the year.

Shonda stepped in the circle firing strikes and pounding the strike zone all game, as she controlled the Spartan bats on her way to win number seven.

Chandie Perez singled home Jinger Meuir to score CSN's first run of the contest and Kiana Burnett scored Perez and Simpson two batters later with a clutch single to extend the Lady Coyotes lead to 3-0. Freshman Justine Tadeo-Corpuz singled home a pair of RBI's in the bottom of the fifth inning to increase CSN's lead to 6-0 and three batters later shortstop Jinger Meuir stepped into the batters box looking to end the game with one swing of the bat. Meuir didn't disappoint as she launched the second pitch of the at bat to left, plating Tadeo-Corpuz and Menke to give her team the run rule victory. CSN defeated CNCC 8-0 in the final game of the weekend to improve to 6-2 in SWAC play and 11-6 overall.

This week our Lady Coyotes hit the road for Price, Utah to battle the USU Eastern Eagles in the first of four games beginning Friday March 17th.
