Following a 3-1 road trip to open SWAC play, the Coyotes found themselves back in the comforts of Lied Field at Morse Stadium as the team welcomed in the USU-Eastern Eagles for its conference home opener.
Todd Danzeisen got the starting nod to begin the weekend, but unfortunately for CSN was not his usual self. The sophomore struggled all afternoon with his command, surrendering six hits over his four innings of work. Todd allowed five runs, departing in the top of the fifth inning before he could factor into a decision.
After the Eagles tied the game 6-6 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Coyotes picked themselves up and rallied to take the lead for good.
With runners on first and second
Jordan Macias smashed a double to centerfield that plated
Kaid Urban to give CSN a 7-6 lead.
Christian Maggi immediately followed with a seeing-eye single through the right side, scoring Macias and Camburn and extending the Coyotes lead to 9-6.
Blake Inouye earned his third victory of the season after 2.1 hitless innings of relief, fanning three Eagles and retiring all seven batters he faced. CSN defeated USU-E 9-6, improving to 4-1 in SWAC play and 17-8 overall.   Â
Herbie Good took the ball in game two of the series still searching for his first career victory as a member of the Coyotes.
Justin Lutes deposited his second round tripper of the season over the wall in the bottom of the first, putting CSN up 2-0. Maggi and Perns plated a pair of RBI's each in the bottom of the second inning to extend the Coyotes lead to 6-0.
Good would allow single runs in the top of the third and fourth innings, but was in control all day long. Herbie fanned a career high nine batters in five innings of work to cement the first victory of his junior college career.
Despite a stellar outing from Good, it was sophomore
Jarrett Perns who stole the show for CSN. The former Green Valley Gator became the first Coyote to hit for the cycle this season, plating four RBI's on four hits while scoring a pair of runs.
Christian Maggi and
Jordan Macias contributed a pair of RBI's each to help secure the win. CSN defeated USU-E 11-2 to extend its winning streak to four games and improving to 18-8 overall.
Ben Cutting got the start in game three of the series Saturday afternoon with one eye on his second victory of the season and the other on extending his teams conference winning streak to five games. Cutting cruised through seven innings of work, facing just five more batters than the minimum, allowing just five hits and one run on the way to a complete game victory.
The Coyotes plated at least one run in four of the teams six plate appearances and closed the show with a two-run bottom of the sixth inning that extended its lead to 5-1.
Christian Maggi,
Justin Lutes and
Dillon Johnson produced one RBI each as the Coyotes did just enough offensively to find their way into the winner's circle for the fifth consecutive game.
CSN beat USU-E 5-1 in game three of the weekend to improve to 6-1 in conference play and 19-8 overall.
Isaiah Blaylock stepped on the bump in the weekend's final game having allowed just one run in his last 18 innings of work, fanning 20 batters and allowing just four hits.
Blaylock was money once again, tossing five innings of three hit baseball, striking out seven Eagles on the way to his fourth victory of the season.
CSN saved its best offensive effort of the weekend for last, plating 14 runs in the first four innings of the game to put this fourth and final game of the series to bed early.
Peyton Koopman (4 RBI) and
Jordan Macias (3 RBI) did the heavy lifting for CSN as the dynamic duo combined for seven RBI's, three hits and a pair of runs scored. Swiss Army Knife
Joey O'Brien had his best offensive day as a Coyote going 3 for 3, scoring three runs on three hits and plating a pair of RBI's.
Zach Ramzy and
Cody Milner produced one RBI apiece in the victory.
CSN blitzed USU-E 14-1 in the final game of the weekend, sweeping the four-game series over the Eagles. The victory improved the Coyotes to 7-1 in SWAC play and 20-8 overall.
Fans your Coyotes will be in Taylorsville, Utah this weekend to battle the second place SLCC Bruins Friday and Saturday afternoon in a crucial SWAC battle.
