The play-in game between the 4th seeded CNCC Spartans and the 5th seed USU-E Eagles had all the fireworks and drama you would expect from a win or go home tournament game.
Jesse Rowley started the game off with a bang in the top of the second with a 3-run bomb that gave the Eagles a 3-2 lead. Rowley had an encore for the ages in the top of the fourth with a grand salami that extended the USU-E lead over CNCC 7-2.
Local Henderson, Nevada product Trever Berg relieved an ineffective Logan Carlson. Berg dazzled over five stellar innings of scoreless relief, striking out six Eagles on his way to a come-from-behind victory.
The Spartans scored the final six runs of the game to stun the Eagles 8-7 and advance to play top seed and host CSN.
