True freshman Isaiah Blaylock got the ball from head coach Nick Garritano with the Coyotes season hanging in the balance. This time last year freshman Isaiah was wrapping up a stellar senior season at Shadow Ridge High school, what a difference a year makes.
Blaylock rewarded his coaches with the best pitching performance of his collegiate career, firing nine shutout frames that included seven punch-outs.
Trinidad State countered with eight game winner Brennen Geraghty. Geraghty matched zero's with Blaylock for eight epic innings of junior college playoff baseball, with both teams living and dying with every pitch.
Former Green Valley Gator Jarrett "JP" Perns was the only player on either side with a multi-hit game, going a perfect 3 for 3 at the dish with 3 singles. With the game still scoreless in the bottom of the ninth and CSN coming to bat, Coach Garritano played a hunch that led to a "wild" finish. Swiss Army Knife Joey O'Brien pinch hit for designated hitter Jason Wallace and as usual, found a way to get on base.
Following a leadoff single, Joey advanced to second on a groundout off the bat of Blake Wiggins and Trojan reliever Donavin Buck did the rest. With O'Brien standing on second base Buck uncorked a wild pitch that moved him to third. Three pitches later Donavin unleashed his second wild pitch of the inning, allowing Joey O'Brien to score the game-winning run and secure a complete game victory for Isaiah Blaylock.
CSN walked-off in dramatic fashion ,1-0 over TSJC and will play at later today versus the loser of the CAC/AWC game.
