The College of Southern Nevada hit the road this past weekend to battle the #2 ranked CSI Golden Eagles in Twin Falls, Idaho followed by a Saturday afternoon matinee versus the 5
th ranked SLCC Bruins in Taylorsville, Utah.
The gauntlet that is Scenic West Athletic Conference volleyball caught up to the Lady Coyotes as they prepared to challenge the #2 team in NJCAA volleyball Friday evening in Twin Falls, Idaho. A determined group of Golden Eagles came out firing on all cylinders, dispatching CSN (16-25 and 8-25) in the sets one and two to take a commanding lead in the match. Despite an uphill battle Southern Nevada showed grit and heart to battle back and claim set three of the match 25-23, cutting CSI's match lead in half. Unfortunately the Golden Eagles regrouped to claim set four as well as the match (16-25, 8-25, 25-23 and 10-25) three sets to one.
Match standouts for the Lady Coyotes included
Lexi Riggs,
Marta Ellsworth and
Abbey Archambault with 5 kills apiece as well as
Kaylee Wilcox (13 assists) and
Jacquie Yapching (8 digs).
For the second consecutive match this young Southern Nevada team was tasked with the uphill battle of attempting to defeat the 5
th ranked Bruins who have yet to drop a match on its home court. Salt Lake used its height around the net and its overall athleticism to capture the first two sets of the match (13-25 and 14-25) in what appeared to be mirror images of one another. CSN was able to regroup and challenge the SLCC in set three, however the team's effort fell short as they were defeated in straight sets (13-25, 14-25 and 18-25).
The loss dropped the Lady Coyotes to 0-3 in SWAC play and 7-12 overall in 2018.
Abbey Archambault (8 kills),
