CSN Men's Soccer Primed To Make A Run At Region XVIII Soccer Title

HENDERSON, Nev. (October 31, 2019) – The College of Southern Nevada men's soccer team will have an opportunity to overcome an inconsistent regular season in this week's Region 18 championships at Zions Bank Stadium.

The Coyotes had an up-and-down journey, going through periods of elite play and mixing it with moments of struggle. Still, CSN qualified to the postseason and will have a good draw as the No. 3 seed in the tournament. Southern Nevada is scheduled to play No. 2 Snow College in the semifinals, with the winner advancing to play in Saturday's championships.

CSN coach Geoff Hawkins said the Snow matchup will provide a variety of opportunities and challenges for his team.

"We are mentally preparing for two incredibly tough matches," he said. "This will be a defensive battle between two teams with a history of close matches."

Southern Nevada qualified into the tournament with a record of 9-5-3 overall and 4-3-3 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The team's 15 points scored just behind Snow's 16 points. During the season, Snow earned a narrow 1-0 victory over Southern Nevada in the first conference match for both teams, with the Coyotes and Badgers finishing in a 0-0 tie at Snow.

Salt Lake Community College will host the tournament at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, home to the Real Monarchs professional team. The Bruins earned the tourney's top seed with a mark of 10-0 in Scenic West play.

CSN will play Snow at 3:30 p.m.(MDT) on Friday in the day's first men's semifinal. The winner will advance to Saturday's championship match.
