HENDERSON, Nev. (August 28, 2019) – The College of Southern Nevada men's soccer team flexed its offensive muscle in last weekend's season openers, outscoring opponents by a margin of 10-0.

Now the Coyotes are ready for a pair of home matches that will also serve as the program's home openers for 2019. CSN will play Allan Hancock College at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and Arizona Western on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Southern Nevada coach Geoff Hawkins said his team is encouraged by the early success they've had, in spite of moments of inconsistency.

"We struggled with consistent play for 90 minutes (against Gateway)," he said. "In the second half we figured out our defensive roles but we still struggled to convert on the offensive end.

"Against Paradise Valley, we showed up ready to play and really linked well from the opening whistle. Our finishing was outstanding."

Allen Hancock will play its openers this week, with the game against CSN serving as the program's second game of the season. The program went 6-12-3 in the 2018 season, scoring 45 goals. Arizona Western will also play its first official match of the year against Southern Nevada.

Hawkins noted the Coyotes will have another chance to play solid regional competition this weekend.

"It's always a pleasure to have strong competition in your home openers and that's what we have this weekend," he said. "I'm excited to see how our players respond to the challenge of playing in front of their own fans."

Southern Nevada will host two more non-conference matches at Heritage Park before the Scenic West schedule begins, as the team will play both Yavapai College and Western Wyoming Community College. The Coyotes are slated to start league play on September 12 against Snow College.
