HENDERSON, Nev. (September 18, 2019) – The College of Southern Nevada men's soccer team is regrouping after a tough opening to Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
After a conference-opening loss to Snow College, the Coyotes will return home to Heritage Park to face off against in-state rival Truckee Meadows Community College, followed up by hosting nationally-ranked Salt Lake Community College. The Bruins are a top-five team in the country, giving CSN a platform to dramatically respond from last weekend's tough opener.
Southern Nevada coach
Geoff Hawkins said his team has learned valuable lessons from last week's setbacks.
"Every competitive opportunity gives our players and coaches the chance to learn and improve," he said. "I've appreciated the lessons we're learning and I think our team does as well. It should be exciting going forward."
Truckee Meadows is a newly-minted member of the Scenic West Athletic Conference, giving the Coyotes an in-state rival for the first time in several years. The Lizards have started the season at 5-1-1 and split in the opening weekend, earning a large victory over Colorado Northwestern Community College but falling to USU Eastern. The split record for Truckee Meadows leaves the Lizards as the second-place team in the Scenic West.
CSN will also face the league's top team as the Salt Lake Community College team rolls into Southern Nevada with a 4-0-1 and a 10-0 win over Colorado Northwestern. The Bruins earned a tie against top-ranked Pima Community College in the season's opening weekend, also picking up a dominant win over USU Eastern in the opener.
Hawkins said this week's matches will provide a strong test for the Coyotes and their growth as a program.
"We are excited to host an in-state rival and a nationally-ranked opponent at our place this weekend," he said. "We have a great chance to continue to build our reputation and we look forward to some great competition."
The Coyotes will host Truckee Meadows in a match on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Saturday's match against Salt Lake CC is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start. Both matches will be streamed on the Coyotes Sports Network.
