HERRIMAN, UT. (May 18, 2021) – The College of Southern Nevada women's soccer team will have the opportunity to set a strong tone in its 2021 postseason opener.
Facing No. 2 Salt Lake Community College, who is the top seed in this week's Region 18 tournament, the Lady Coyotes will have all they can handle. However, an upset in Tuesday morning's Region 18 semifinal would give them a signature win and potentially propel them to great heights.
CSN coach
Jocelyn Roach said her team is excited for the opportunity to face one of the nation's best programs in the postseason.
"Having SLCC right off the bat, we know what to expect," she said. "Salt Lake is a good team, and they have shut us out twice. However, I have told my players those past two games do not matter anymore, and in this conference, it's really anybody's game. We want to come out strong and play to our strengths."
CSN went 0-2 against Salt Lake in the regular season, failing to score a goal in both matches. The Lady Coyotes fell in a narrow 3-2 loss in their regular-season finale, setting up for another tough opponent to open the postseason in the No. 2 Bruins.
However, in spite of their trials during the season, Roach said she is preaching patience to her players.
"We have to play to our strengths," she said. "We have to find a way to be creative in our attack and get players in behind a strong midfield right off the bat with SLCC. We have to find a way to score some goals, which has been a struggle for us against teams like SLCC and Snow."
Southern Nevada's match with Salt Lake will be played at 11:00 a.m. at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah. The winner will advance to Wednesday's Region 18 championship match.
