CSN Athletics Celebrates Student Athlete Achievements at 8th Annual Awards Banquet

Las Vegas, NV - The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) Athletics recently hosted its 8th Annual Coyote Athletic Awards Banquet at the CSN Student Union-West Charleston, honoring the remarkable achievements of student-athletes across various sports programs. The event, held on April 23, 2024, brought together athletes, coaches, staff, families, and distinguished guests in a celebration of athletic and academic excellence.

The evening commenced with James Hernandez, renowned as "The Voice" of CSN Athletics, serving as the Master of Ceremonies. Hernandez expressed gratitude to sponsors, supporters, and key figures like CSN President Dr. Federico Zaragoza and Director of Athletics Yvonne Wade for their unwavering commitment to Coyote Athletics.

Dr. Zaragoza and Dr. Margo Martin, recognized for her exceptional leadership in overseeing athletics, were praised for their dedication to fostering academic and athletic success at CSN. The event also acknowledged the hard work of athletic staff, coaches, and administrators, highlighting their pivotal role in shaping the achievements of CSN's student-athletes.

The program included a delicious BBQ dinner courtesy of Chuck and Nita Frommer from John Mulls Meats and Roadkill Grill, further enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards to outstanding student-athletes across various categories:

  • Scholar Athletes: Paige Grant (Women's Basketball) with a 3.92 GPA and Lucas Boesen (Baseball) with a 3.98 GPA were honored for their academic excellence alongside athletic prowess.

  • Unsung Heroes: Keyna "KB" Hadley (Women's Basketball) and LeRone Wright (Men's Basketball) were recognized for their determination, loyalty, and dedication to their teams and the community.

  • Individual Service Award: Jasmin Monroy (Women's Soccer) was lauded for her enthusiasm, selflessness, and dedication to community service through coaching young soccer players.

  • Coyote Spirit Award: Bryna Zdara (Cheer) and David Estes (Men's Basketball) were celebrated for their outstanding display of school spirit and positive influence on campus.

  • Rookie of the Year: Layla Faught (Women's Soccer / Women's Basketball) and Brady Ballinger (Baseball) received accolades for their exemplary sportsmanship, attitude, and skills in their first year at CSN.

  • Community Service Award: The Coyote Cheer Team was honored for contributing the most time and effort to community service, reflecting CSN Athletics' commitment to giving back.

  • Athlete of the Year: Jordyn Stroud (Women's Basketball) and Mikey Cruz (Baseball) were named Female and Male Athletes of the Year, respectively, for their outstanding performances and leadership qualities.

The evening also introduced the Dexter Irvin Coyote Coach of the Year Award, with Coach Dan Savage receiving this inaugural honor for embodying exceptional coaching qualities and the Coyote Spirit.


The event concluded with heartfelt acknowledgments of dedicated staff members and community leaders whose contributions have significantly impacted CSN Athletics.


The 8th Annual CSN Coyote Athletic Awards Banquet exemplified the spirit of excellence, teamwork, and community that defines CSN Athletics, setting the stage for continued success and achievements in the years to come.
