College of Southern Nevada Honors Mayor Carolyn Goodman for Her Role in Expanding Sports Officials Education and Recruitment

| By:
Las Vegas, NV — In a celebratory event on May 3, 2024, the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) paid tribute to Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman for her instrumental role with the S.C.O.R.E. program. This initiative, in partnership with the Southern Nevada Officials Association (SNOA), has significantly addressed the shortage of qualified sports officials in Southern Nevada.
Launched in the fall of 2022, the SCORE program — SNOA Coyote Officials Recruitment and Education — was a vision of Mayor Goodman aimed at replenishing the ranks of sports officials depleted by the pandemic, high gas prices, and low pay. Developed in collaboration with CSN President Federico Zaragoza, SNOA President Vince Kristosik, SNOA Commissioner of Officials Marc Ratner, then CSN Athletic Director Dexter Irvin and inaugural program director Greg Holloway, the program has focused on recruiting and training officials on CSN's campus.

In just two years, the program has seen remarkable success, boosting the number of registered officials from 676 to 1,297. This achievement was celebrated during the event where CSN Director of Athletics Yvonne Wade and CSN S.C.O.R.E. Program Director Dan Savage unveiled a new logo, renaming the initiative the Carolyn Goodman SCORE Program in honor of the Mayor's contributions.
Additionally, President Kristosik and Commissioner Ratner presented Mayor Goodman with an acrylic memento as a token of appreciation for her vision and dedication to sports in the community.

"We are honored to be able to recognize Mayor Goodman for addressing the shortage of quality officials that led to the creation of the S.C.O.R.E. program," said Yvonne Wade, Director of Athletics and Recreation at CSN. "In two years, the program has nearly doubled the number of registered sporting officials in Southern Nevada. This not only ensures that our youth can continue to participate in sports, but it also creates job opportunities for members of the community. This program serves a very valuable role for Southern Nevada and the CSN Athletic Department and SNOA are committed to continuing the good work."

The event underscored the ongoing commitment of CSN and SNOA to support the development of sports and recreation in Southern Nevada, highlighting the essential role of officials in facilitating fair and competitive play across all levels of sport.

The College of Southern Nevada expresses its deepest gratitude to Mayor Goodman for her years leadership and her unwavering commitment to the youth and sports community in Southern Nevada.
