Las Vegas, NV — September 26, 2025- The College of Southern Nevada Cross Country program made history on Friday morning, hosting the inaugural Tri-State Challenge at scenic Floyd Lamb State Park. With the first flight starting at 7:00 a.m., a talented field of men's and women's teams from across the Southwest lined up on a new course designed specifically for the event.
The meet featured a men's 8K course, which included three large loops around the park before a small loop into the finish. The women competed on a 5K layout, completing two large loops before closing with the finishing loop. Programs from Canyons, Central Arizona College, Coconino CC, Cuyamaca, Hartnell, and Long Beach joined the Coyotes in the competitive field.
Men's Race – Coyotes Place Two in the Top 10
The CSN men impressed on their home course, paced by sophomore
Tucker Raymond, who clocked a strong 26:36 to place 8th overall in a deep field. Not far behind was teammate
Kyle Gwerder, who finished 10th overall with a time of 26:48.
The Coyotes' pack continued with
Jackson Graham (27:56) and
Jorrin Johnston (27:57) finishing just one second apart.
Bryan Cole rounded out the scoring lineup, crossing in 28:50. Together, the men showcased the depth and growth of the program while competing head-to-head with several of the top junior college programs in the West.
Women's Race – Strong Pack Running for CSN
On the women's side, freshman
Julia Gamboa led the Coyotes with a time of 21:30, establishing herself among the front runners. He sister
Jasmine Gamboa followed in 22:19, while
Kalaya Tyner (22:31) stayed close to give CSN a solid trio in the scoring mix.
Lilly Martell closed out the Coyotes' effort in 24:31, giving CSN valuable depth as the women's team continues to build momentum in their debut season.
Hosting the Tri-State Challenge marked a significant step forward for the Coyotes' cross country program. With a picturesque venue, a challenging course, and quality competition, the event set a high standard for future years.
The Coyotes will now look ahead to their next competition, the UC Riverside Invitational on September 27 in Riverside, California, as they continue building toward the postseason, carrying momentum from a successful morning of racing on their home course.
