By James Hernandez

The College of Southern Nevada concluded its regular season with a game versus Spokane Community College Friday night followed by a Halloween afternoon finale in Coeur D'Alene Idaho for a rematch with the Cardinals.

The Coyotes showed plenty of fight and determination in the opening set of its match with Spokane as they dropped the first set of the match (23-25). The second set of the match was dictated by the Bigfoot's ability to dictate the pace of the set, as they were able to outlast the Coyotes and earn a second set victory (19-25). Once again CSN was able to jump out to an early four point lead in the third, but once again this young group of Coyotes was unable to finish off Spokane as the Bigfoot rallied from behind to claim a (23-25) third set victory and claim the match  in straight sets (23-25) (19-25) and (23-25). Match standouts for the Coyotes included libero Hannah Karas with a team high 16 digs, Christina Beaver (27 assists) and the dynamic duo of Johanna Alvarez-Thompson and Bailey Bergquist combined for 22 of the teams 36 kills.

The regular season finale for CSN featured some tricks, but few treats for Sue Thurman and her young pack of Coyotes as the team looked to claim its first conference match victory of the season, while exacting a measure of revenge for a home loss last month to this same Cardinals team. North Idaho used two 5-0 spurts in the first set to take control and eventually close out the opening set, (18-25). Set two of the match saw the Cardinals take control early and cruise to a (14-25) victory as they pushed CSN to the brink of defeat. Just as they have done all season, this resilient group of Coyotes continued to fight until the very end. With the third tied up at 14 apiece CSN found a way to close the set on an 11-3 run to claim the third set of the match (25-17).  The onset of fatigue during the fourth set was apparent by both teams as the match saw its fair share of sloppy play and unforced errors. CSN never held more than a two point lead the entire match as North Idaho dictated the pace of play, the entire set on its way to a match clinching (19-25) victory in the fourth set. The Cardinals won the match 3 sets to one, (18-25) (14-25) (25-17) and (19-25). Coyote's standouts for the match included the Christina Beaver with 23 assists and 9 digs, and Johanna Alvarez-Thompson who led the team in both kills (12) and digs (10).

With the regular season the rearview mirror this young Coyotes team will now focus its efforts on the 2015 Scenic West Athletic Conference Tournament November 6-8 in Twin Falls, Idaho. CSN will be the seventh seed in this year's tournament and will open the tournament with a matchup versus the second seeded Salt Lake Community College Bruins Friday at 6:00 p.m.
