Head coach
Geoff Hawkins has seen the confidence of his young Coyotes grow by leaps and bounds after an undefeated start to its inaugural season.
After playing its first two games of the season in the Golden State CSN returned home to open up conference play and showcase its skills in front of a fan base that has been starving for "The Beautiful Game".
First up for the Coyotes was its Scenic West Athletic Conference home opener versus Utah State University-Eastern.
After earning consecutive road shutouts, goalkeeper
Miguel Navarrete proved he was in fact human after allowing his first goal of the season 19:17 into the match.
Facing its first deficit of the season CSN responded with a poise and maturity reminiscent of a veteran soccer club.
Ozwaldo Medina scored the next two goals of the game and almost single-handedly put his team back in front for good.
Single goals would be added by
Eddie Mercado,
Ricardo Gonzalez and
Genaro Corona as the Coyotes scored the final five goals of the match to cruise to a 5-1 victory in the conference home opener.
Saturdays match had a sluggish start which would plague CSN early as they were tied 0-0 with Allan Hancock College after 45 minutes of play.
Despite a lack of offense in the opening 45 minutes the Coyotes were on point defensively and after some key halftime adjustments the team came out firing on all cylinders to start the 2
nd half.
Raul Sanchez found the back of the net just two minutes out of halftime to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Freshman midfielder
Stefan Skrinjaric struck for CSN's second goal of the match and forward
Antonio Trauma closed the show in style with a late goal that gave CSN a 3-0 win and weekend sweep.
Desert Pines alum
Ozwaldo Medina's 2 goals and 1 assist were enough to nab him SWAC Men's Soccer player of the week honors, and for the second consecutive week
Miguel Navarrete (1 goal allowed in 4 games played, 0.25 goals per game) was a no brainer for SWAC Keeper of the Week.
Your Coyotes will be back in action at home Thursday 9/15, Friday 9/16 and Sunday 9/18.
