Lady Coyote Volleyball Recap vs Golden Eagles And Bruins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

By James Hernandez

Following a 3-2 weekend your Lady Coyotes set their sights on the team's toughest road trip of the 2017 season. This young Southern Nevada team focused in on a pair of top ten opponents, as they prepared to face the #5 College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles Friday followed by the 8th ranked Salt Lake City Bruins Saturday afternoon.

Friday's match began with a  group of Lady Coyotes competing with the 5th ranked Golden Eagles point for point. CSI was able to edge out CSN (17-25) in the matches opening set, however the eight point margin of victory was the largest of the three match set. Set two began with both teams trading points until a veteran Southern Idaho club edged out the set victory (20-25). CSN came out on fire to begin set three, however was unable to seal the deal as the Golden Eagles claimed the matches final set (22-25). Despite dropping the match in straight sets (17-25, 20-25 and 22-25) this was one of the most competitive matches we have seen out of the Lady Coyotes this season. Match standouts for Southern Nevada included Jaycie Johnson (7kills) Carlee Becker (8 assists) and Esmeralda Solano (14 digs).

The eighth ranked SLCC Bruins welcomed the Lady Coyotes to Taylorsville, Utah and unfortunately for CSN the Bruins home court continued to be a house of horrors for CSN. SLCC jumped in front early in the opening set of the match, dominating around the net to take the opening set of the match in dominant fashion, (12-25). Southern Nevada put together one of its most impressive sets of the season, battling the nationally ranked Bruins point for point until finally bowing out (22-25) in the end. With CSN trailing 2 sets to zero, SLCC smelled blood in the water and like a veteran team they were able to close out the match in straight sets (12-25, 22-25 and 18-25) to earn the victory. CSN match leaders include Rachel Chambers with 6 kills, Carlee Becker with 11 assists and Kathy Hernandez with 3 blocks and 6 digs.

Fans your Lady Coyotes will be back in action at home this week with matches Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon. For match times, live stats and upcoming opponents log onto www.csncoyotes.com or follow us on Twitter @CSN_Vball or Facebook CSNCoyotes.
