After 4 non-conference matches the Lady Coyotes set their sights on Price, Utah where a hungry group of Eagles awaited them in the team's first Scenic West Athletic Conference clash of the 2018 season.
The Eagles were not the most welcoming house guest's Friday afternoon when Southern Nevada arrived in the Beehive State to open up 2018 conference play.
USU-Eastern blitzed CSN out of the gate and just 14 minutes into the match had already established a 2-0 advantage courtesy of a pair of goals off the foot of McKenna Wiscombe. Despite the early standing eight count, the Lady Coyotes shook off the cobwebs and rallied to cut the deficit in half when star striker
Ashlee Jordan put a beauty past the Eagles keeper in the 29
th minute. The deficit remained one into intermission and a three goal first half gave way to a defensive chess match in half number two.
CSN's
Brianna Duran scored the equalizer in the 65
th minute with a sweet unassisted goal to erase an early 2-0 deficit and knot the match up at 2 apiece. Both sides had opportunities to break the deadlock, however they all fell by the wayside as the clubs battled to a 2-2 draw in their SWAC opener.
Saturday's match had a carryover of the defensive tone set by both clubs in the second half of Friday's opener with both teams scrapping and clawing to gain any edge they could. Despite an outstanding defensive game plan by Coach Hawkins and his staff, the Eagles were able to put a pair of goals past CSN keeper
Samantha Silva for the second straight match.
Unfortunately for Southern Nevada, there was no late rallies to speak of as the Eagles Mya Massey was able to turn away the Lady Coyotes scoring opportunities all afternoon and secure the 2-0 shutout victory for USU-Eastern. CSN tasted defeat for the first time in 2018 as they dropped to 3-1-1 in 2018.
Fans your Lady Coyotes will be in Walnut, California this weekend to battle Mount San Antonio College Saturday September 15
th.
