HENDERSON, Nev. (March 11, 2020) – After earning their first league win of the season last week, the College of Southern Nevada softball team will travel out of state for a four-game road series this weekend.
CSN will travel to Colorado to face off against Colorado Northwestern Community College, a team that is still looking to find its mark in the 2020 season. The Lady Coyotes, conversely, are hitting their stride thanks to a close victory and a strong performance against one of the better teams in the Scenic West Athletic Conference in Snow College.
CSN coach
Ashley Johnston said her team is beginning to develop an identity in league play after last weekend's results.
"We have had our ups and down these last two weeks as we have been through a lot of emotions with the highs and the lows in the games," she said. "However, getting our first conference win has helped our confidence tremendously. We know our potential and these girls have showed a lot of fight in most of the conference games we have played. We have had to come from behind several times so they have pushed through and shown that they have the heart to win."
Southern Nevada only went 1-3 against Snow College last weekend, earning an 11-8 win in their only victory. However, CSN fell in close losses of 8-6 and 9-7 that repeatedly showcased multiple comebacks in tight losses.
The Lady Coyotes and CNCC will have a close matchup throughout the weekend, with CNCC's 0-8 mark in league play matching up against CSN's 1-7 mark. CNCC was swept in run-rule games with Salt Lake Community College to open week one of league play, facing similar struggles against USU Eastern in week two.
Regardless of their slow start to the season, Johnston said playing CNCC will require attention to detail.
"We know that we are capable of taking all four games against CNCC," she said. "We just have to stay focused and take one game at a time. Our kids have showed tremendous power at the plate these last few games so we are hoping to continue that and be consistent throughout the weekend."
Southern Nevada will play doubleheaders with Colorado Northwestern on Friday and Saturday. CSN will return home on March 20 for a series with the College of Southern Idaho.
