Cross Country: The upstart Southern Nevada Cross Country program continues to thrive this fall, preparing for an invitational in Arizona.
The Coyotes and Lady Coyotes will compete in the 'Vaquero "Campy" Invitational' this weekend, with hopes of being included in next week's NJCAA rankings. CSN has only two scheduled events remaining.
Southern Nevada coach
Bryan Astudillo said his teams are excited to measure themselves against similar NJCAA competition.
"We are excited to be facing the No. 6 NJCAA men's team and other NJCAA schools that we haven't competed against," he said. "We have really pushed ourselves against all these NCAA schools in the boat meets, so I'm excited to see where we stand against other NJCAA schools."
Men's Soccer: Southern Nevada will have a pair of home contests this week, starting with nationally-ranked Snow College on Thursday.
The Coyotes will host the No. 16 Badgers on Thursday, after earning a 4-2 win over the program earlier in the season. CSN will also host in-state rival Truckee Meadows on Sunday, with the rivals playing for a victory in the season series after a 1-1 tie earlier in the year.
Southern Nevada coach
Yancey Tisdale said this week's matches will be a good measuring stick for his program.
"This is proving to be the most important week of games up to this point and probably all the way until the conference tournament," he said. "We will be playing Snow College and Truckee Meadows, which are both very good teams and both in the hunt for a conference playoff spot. We can all but lock down a top-four spot with two good results this week."
Women's Soccer: Southern Nevada will carry a full boat of momentum into a pair of Scenic West home matches this week.
CSN is on a two-match winning streak, thanks to wins over USU Eastern and Colorado Northwestern. The Lady Coyotes will need plenty of momentum, with No. 2 Snow College and Truckee Meadows coming to town this week. CSN posted a 3-0 loss to Snow earlier in the year, earning a 4-3 win at Truckee Meadows.
Lady Coyotes coach
Jocelyn Roach said her team is aware of the challenges and opportunities ahead of them this week.
"We have a tough week of games ahead of us," she said. "We just need to focus on one game at a time, with our first game this week being the Snow game; then focus on taking care of TMCC. It will be nice to play both opponents at home and we hope to get some good results."
Roach said playing at home allows for a more consistent routine for her team.
"I have really liked our travel schedule this year," she said. "It has allowed a lot of time at home in consecutive weeks so we can practice at home the day before games, and day in between games. It also allows us time to take care of school work. When we are on the road, sometimes we don't get to practice."
Volleyball: The College of Southern Nevada Volleyball program will play a pair of road matches this week, traveling to play at No. 6 Salt Lake and then on to Southern Idaho.
CSN fell to No. 4 Snow College last week, with the program sitting with a mark of 1-2 in Scenic West play. This will be the first time the Lady Coyotes have faced both opponents this season.
Southern Nevada coach
Jocelyn Roach said her team is ready to play a nationally-ranked team at the caliber of SLCC.
"We are continuing to focus on our game and improving our mentality, as well as technical play," she said. "We are progressively getting better every match and our knowledge grows each time we play."
