SEASON IN REVIEW: CSN Women’s Basketball takes steps forward in Scenic West

HENDERSON, Nev. (April 6, 2022) – The sophomore season for the College of Southern Nevada Women's Basketball program represented a strong step forward.

CSN powered to an overall record of 14-17 overall, posting a mark of 9-9 in Scenic West games in just the second year of the program's existence. While the year featured numerous ups and downs, the summation of Southern Nevada's season was focused on one word - growth.

"After the holiday break we put in some new offensive and defensive sets that let us showcase our team strengths," said Southern Nevada coach Dan Savage. "We also have subsequently had several players that have received a lot of interest from four-year schools."

After taking over midway through the season, Savage quickly took control and guided the Lady Coyotes to some noteworthy wins, including an upset of then-No. 22 Salt Lake on the road. Additionally, he set the tone for building what the program will be in his recruiting approach.

"We have some dynamic players that have committed to our program for next season," said Savage. "From state championship point guards to post players and everything in between, we absolutely love our recruiting class."

With two seasons in the books, CSN is looking to take the next step, which is seriously contending for a Scenic West Athletic Conference regular season title. As part of that focus, it will not only be on the players but the coaches to improve their craft.

"I preach to my assistant coaches that we must always be looking for ways to improve as a coaching staff," he said. "We will be attending coaching clinics and studying all aspects of being effective leaders. We will be expanding our film sessions and incorporating more mental health activities for our players. We will be adding a few additional staff members that will help bring our staff to the next level."

Overall, Savage noted that the goal of CSN's program is to raise the level of competition to the highest level.

"To compete at the highest level of the Scenic West Conference we must be playing at a high level earlier in the season," he said. "It is important to get our new players in and get them used to the college game a little quicker than we did last year."
