Conference play continued for the Coyotes with a pair of home matches versus the Colorado Northwestern Community College Lady Spartans on Friday and Saturday afternoon at Heritage Park in Henderson, Nevada.
Coach
Jennifer Schultz was hoping her team could build upon the momentum of a three game winning streak in which the Lady Coyotes outscored its opponents 18-2.
CSN opened up play Friday afternoon not allowing a goal over its last 180 minutes of match time, playing exceptional team defense in front of two-time reigning SWAC keeper of the week
Carolina Velasquez. Sophomore
Nadia Hernandez picked up right where she left off (7 goals in her last 2 matches) scoring a pair of goals three minutes apart to put CSN ahead 2-0, 39 minutes into the contest.
Deanna Passerella added the teams third goal of the match to go along with an earlier assist and
Talia Sclafani put a sweet pass off the foot of
Sasha Escamilla, past the CNCC goalkeeper just before half to expand the Lady Coyotes lead to 4-0.
Fabiana Romano put a beautiful shot from about 25 yards out past the Lady Spartans goalkeeper to get the scoring started for the Lady Coyotes in the second half.
Katherine Lazarte put the icing on the cake with an assist from
Faith Ezelle on the teams sixth and final goal of the match with just over ten minutes left to play. CSN defeated CNCC 6-0, improving to 6-1 overall and evening its SWAC record at 1-1.
When Saturday morning arrived the stellar defense of the Lady Coyotes had now logged 270 minutes of match play without being scored upon.
CNCC began the match back on its heels and the teams sloppy play in its own zone resulted in an own goal that put the Spartans behind the eight ball before CSN was able to create an offensive attack of its own.
Freshman
Fabiana Romano ignited the Coyote offense in the first scoring unassisted goals at 14:42 and 34:10 mark in the first half to expand the lead to 3-0 heading into halftime.
CSN came out of the locker room on the attack and a corner kick by
Brooke McArthur was redirected by CNCC into its own net for the second time of the match, giving the Coyotes a 4-0 lead less than five minutes into the second half.
After deflating the Spartans balloon once and for all the blowout was on as the Lady Coyotes tallied four more goals, in just 23 minutes of play highlighted by another
Nadia Hernandez hat trick.
This was the star forward's 3
rd hat trick and 12
th goal scored in the teams last four matches played.
Faith Ezelle and
Talia Sclafani added unassisted single goals at the 50
th and 82
nd minute to contribute to the blowout.
CSN defeated CNCC 9-0 in its final match of the weekend.
The victory improved the Lady Coyotes overall record to 7-1 and 2-1 in SWAC play.
