The Lady Coyotes hit the road last weekend for the team's final non-conference test before Scenic West Athletic Conference play. CSN challenged itself versus a pair of California colleges as the team pursued its first victory under first year coach
Rob Dahl.
Saturday's matchup was in Walnut, California versus one of the top junior college women's soccer programs in the Golden state, Mt. San Antonio College. Both teams were aggressive out of the gate, creating multiple scoring opportunities throughout the first half. Unfortunately for Southern Nevada it was the Mounties who capitalized with a pair of first half goals to take a 2-0 lead into intermission. 1st Team Region 18Â goalkeeper
Carolina Velasquez did her best to keep the team in striking distance by turning away every shot she faced in the second half, however the 2 goal deficit was too much for the Lady Coyotes to overcome. Despite outshooting Mt. Sac in the second half CSN was unable to dent the scoreboard and eventually dropped the match 2-0.
Following a tough 2-0 setback the Lady Coyotes soccer team refocused its attention to Victor Valley College as the team looked to build some much-needed momentum heading into next weekend's road conference opener. Southern Nevada was razor sharp offensively and just 18 minutes into the match that play was rewarded when
Jessi Jaech found the back of the net courtesy of a beautiful setup off the foot of freshman
Shae Hollan to give CSN a 1-0 advantage. The former Centennial Bulldog
Shae Hollan added a goal of her own and second point of the match just five minutes later courtesy of an assist from
Olivia Meza. Co-captain and former Cimarron-Memorial Spartan
Jazmin Centeno netted the team's third goal of the first half at the 28 minute mark of the period assisted by
Ashlee Jordan to give CSN a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the locker room. The Rams were able to get one past
Carolina Velasquez in the 60
th minute to trim the deficit to 3-1, however freshman
Ashlee Jordan cemented the victory for Southern Nevada in the 72
nd minute courtesy of a perfect feed from
Olivia Meza. CSN defeated VVC 4-1 to give head coach
Rob Dahl his first, of many victories as head coach of the Lady Coyotes. Â
