HENDERSON, Nev. (October 16, 2019) – The College of Southern Nevada men's soccer team is in the hunt for a top-four seed in next week's Region 18 championships and the Coyotes will have two critical matches in their way to get there.
CSN will host Colorado Northwestern Community College and USU Eastern this weekend at Heritage Park, providing the program's last regular-season matches to get into position for the postseason. The Coyotes currently are tied for fourth-place with USU Eastern at 9 points and marks of 2-3-3 in league play.
Southern Nevada is fortunate to be full of momentum entering the match, especially after earning a close in-state win over Truckee Meadows Community College. The Coyotes mathematically could rise as high as second place in the league depending on this weekend's outcomes.
Both matches this week will be important for Southern Nevada's postseason chances, CSN coach
Geoff Hawkins said.
"Winning our in-state rivalry and scoring a few goals has really helped our team's confidence," he said. "Preparation for our final two matches this week will be intense. These two games are critical to our overall conference finish."
Colorado Northwestern has yet to win a league match this season, currently sitting with a mark of 0-7-1 in league play. USU Eastern is tied with CSN in the standings; previously, the two teams also tied in a Scenic West match in Price. The Coyotes downed CNCC by a margin of 5-0 on the road in September.
Southern Nevada's Thursday match with Colorado Northwestern is scheduled for a start time of 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Park. CSN's match against USU Eastern will begin at 11:00 a.m.
